Kota Kinabalu: A boy, who Daily Express reported in March was among five Indonesian fishermen kidnapped in Tambisan Island waters off Lahad Datu in January, had escaped his Abu Sayyaf captors in Sulu, an Indonesian source told the paper.
Ulta Levenia Nababan, a terrorism researcher at Jakarta-based think tank Galatea, said three sources told her the boy’s current whereabouts was unknown.

Stresses need for establishment of Floating Stations in coastal communities

An oil and gas surveillance group in Warri South – West Local Government Area, Delta State, Ugborodo Patriotic Observers, UPO, has warned those behind the blackmail of Ocean Marine Solutions Limited, OMS, over the company’s handling of Escravos Warri and Trans Forcados Pipelines, to stop forthwith, saying it is counterproductive for the existing peace being enjoyed in the industry.
The Ugborodo Patriotic Observers in a statement released weekend after an emergency meeting held at Ode – Ugborodo, Warri South – West Local Government Area, scored Ocean Marine Solutions Limited high in the protection of crude oil pipelines and other critical facilities.

Aiming to rid Nigeria’s waterways of criminalities and reassure the global community that it is getting on top of the security issues in its maritime domain, the country will this week commence the prosecution of suspected pirates under the Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences Act.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, disclosed this during interactions with journalists in Lagos.

According to a statement released by the United States Embassy in Cameroon, on January 21, 2020, the Cameroonian Navy plans to purchase in 2020 two 110-foot (34m) Island-class American patrol boats to greater extend its ability to patrol Cameroon’s economic exclusion zone.
Starting in January 2020, the United States began its one-year secretariat of the G7++ Friends of Gulf of Guinea Group, with Gabon serving as co-secretariat. This group coordinates the support of international partners for the maritime security standards agreed upon by West and Central African heads of state at a summit in Yaoundé in 2013.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A man considered as a healer and imam by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and two close aides surrendered to the 45th Infantry Battalion (IB) at the Forward Operating Base of the Philippine Army at Barangay Tugas, Patikul, Sulu, and turned-over two high powered firearms.
Army 11th Division Commander Maj. Gen Corelito Vinluan said the three surrendered to soldiers on Friday, June 19, but declined to identify the alleged imam and his two cohorts.

There have been scores of attacks in Mexican waters, taxing the country’s overstretched security forces.
MEXICO CITY — The pirates appeared out of the darkness, leaping aboard the Italian-flagged supply ship off the coast of Mexico. Weapons drawn, the eight attackers worked swiftly, taking crew members hostage while they ransacked the vessel and snatched personal belongings and equipment.
Shots were fired, according to the United States Office of Naval Intelligence, and a security video showed a pirate gesticulating wildly with a pistol before the robbers sped away with their loot.

The Danish Navy (Søværnet) will deploy a Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate to the Hormuz Strait to join the French-led operation Agenor.
The decision was green lighted by the Danish parliement on June 11. From August, a Dutch Iver Huitfeldt-class frigate and a Seahawk helicopter will join the Hormuz Strait alongside their French allies.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s dusk to dawn sea curfew has been extended for another two weeks until July 4.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Zaini Jass said the extension of the 6pm to 6am curfew was needed due to continuous threats from cross-border criminals, including from kidnap-for-ransom groups.

Iran’s Navy launched a naval combat war game in the Sea of Oman and the northern parts of the Indian Ocean on Thursday morning.
In the exercise, codenamed ‘Ramadan Martyrs’, the Navy tested new short-range and long-range cruise missiles manufactured by the Iranian Defense Ministry.
The long-range naval cruise missiles hit the targets at a distance of 280 kilometers. The range of the new homegrown missiles may be extended.
A variety of coast-to-sea and sea-to-sea missiles with short and long ranges were fired simultaneously from the coastal launchers and the deck of naval vessels, and they could successfully detonate the targets with great accuracy.
The Thursday war game was held on the fortieth day after the martyrdom of a number of Navy forces in an incident involving the Konarak vessel.
Nineteen Navy servicemen were martyred and 15 others injured in the accident on May 10 when a number of vessels were carrying a naval training exercise off the coasts of Jask and Chabahar in the Sea of Oman.
