Rivers Assembly invites Bonny LG chair over sea pirate attacks

The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to invite the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha, to appear before its Committee on Transport to explain his contribution towards the fight against sea pirate attacks along Bonny waterways.

Passenger boats were last week attacked by sea pirates, who kidnapped a councillor and one other person from the area while robbing other passengers of their belongings.

Five robbers boarded an anchored bulk carrier using a rope attached with a hook. Duty AB on routine rounds was attacked, threatened and beaten. Alarm raised and crew mustered. Seeing the alerted crew, the robbers escaped with the duty AB’s personal belongings. Incident reported to local Authorities who boarded the vessel for investigation.

Trinidad fisherman escapes Venezuelan pirates, colleague missing

(Trinidad Guardian) Des­per­ate to es­cape Venezue­lan pi­rates, two kid­napped fish­er­men jumped off their ab­duc­tors’ boat on Mon­day night and took their chances in the sea. Un­for­tu­nate­ly, on­ly one of them man­aged to make it home safe­ly.

Bruised and trau­ma­tised Key­on Alexan­der, 29, of La Union Road, Erin, ar­rived home around 3 pm yes­ter­day, less than 24 hours af­ter he was kid­napped. He had spent the night swim­ming des­per­ate­ly and scream­ing for help from pass­ing boats.

Terror swoop nets 13 linked to Sulu, Abu Sayyaf and Maute groups

PETALING JAYA: Police say 12 Filipinos and one local were arrested on suspicion of terrorist activities in anti-terror operations in Semporna and Tambunan last week.

In a statement, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the suspects were believed to be involved with the Abu Sayyaf and Royal Sulu Force (RSF) militant groups.

Naval Forces Western Mindanao gets new commander

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Vice Adm. Rene Empedrad, Philippine Navy chief, on Thursday installed a new commander for Naval Forces Western Mindanao to replace Vice Adm. Rene Medina, who now heads the Western Command in Palawan.

Rear Adm. Erick Kagadan replaces Medina at NFWM.

The boardings in Mexico have increased by 310% and involve losses of more than 10 million euros for the State Enterprise of Petróleos Mexicanos.

In Mexico, pirates do not wave black flags with skulls and crossbones, nor do they wear eye patches or wooden legs. The old codes of piracy are no longer respected. Now what is imposed in the gulf is to attack with speedboats oil platforms armed with Ak47 (kalashnikov) and take a substantial booty with total and absolute impunity.
