The Nigerian Navy has deployed troops on board six warships, including 60 gunboats, in a special military exercise to tackle pirates, oil smugglers and other criminals in the nation’s waters.
Rear Adm. David Adeniran, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Calabar, announced the deployment at the flag-off of the exercise in Onne, Rivers.

This morning (Tuesday 22nd), MDAT-GoG issued an alert that stated a merchant vessel had been approached by a skiff with 8 persons on board, in position 03°5501N / 001°0300W (121 Nm southwest of Accra).
The vessel was able to evade the suspected pirates and any attempted boarding and was later identified as the MT Hafnia Phoenix by Tradewinds. They reported that a ladder had been sighted in the skiff.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – Suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) failed to create havoc in the town of Jolo in Sulu after elements of the Philippine Coast Guard–Explosive and Ordnance Division (PCG-EOD) discovered a baggage that contained an improvised explosive device (IED) that the bandits planted at the local port, Saturday night, September 19.
Armed Force of the Philippines- Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom) Commander Lt Gen Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said PCG EOD wharf security personnel found the abandoned baggage between the Harbor Master and Maritime Police Office located in Barangay Walled City in about 6:02 p.m., Saturday.

On Sunday 20th, the Joint War Committee reportedly amended its listed risk area within the Gulf of Guinea. Maritime kidnappings have been an ongoing issue for the Gulf of Guinea, particularly in the waters around Nigeria, although other nations have also been affected.
Dryad Global initially reported the new amendments, which are as follows:
a) On the west, from the coast of Togo 6° 06′ 45″ N,
b) high seas point 0° 40′ S, 3° 00′ E
c) and then east to Cape Lopez Peninsula, Gabon 0° 40′ S, 8° 42′ E

The ubiquity of small arms and light weapons (SALW) in Yemen, as well as centuries-old cultural and commercial ties with Somalia, has made Yemen the primary source for illicit arms among Somali importers. Consignments of small arms and ammunition from Yemen cross the Gulf of Aden in a matter of hours to the northern coast of Puntland, a semi-autonomous region in northern Somalia. The port city of Bosaso, Puntland’s largest city and commercial capital, is the financial epicentre of the illicit trade. Arms from Yemen fuel the ongoing civil conflict in Somalia, and many are believed to be transported on throughout the broader East Africa region.

“India has joined the Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment, as Observer, following the high level meeting of the Djibouti Code of Conduct/ Jeddah Amendment (DCOC/JA) held virtually on August 26,” MEA said in a statement.

A recent increase in theft, robbery, and piracy on board ships in the ports of Manila and Batangas could possibly “derail” the country’s plan to become a major crew change hub.
This was the statement made by one of the industry’s manning leaders following a report made by the Singapore Navy’s Information Fusion Centre (IFC) that two sea robberies, six thefts, and two attempts at piracy from January to August 2020 were recorded in Manila and Batangas bays.

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 15th Sep, 2020 ) :Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and Pakistan Customs in a joint intelligence based counter narcotics operation recovered almost 2700 kilograms of hashish worth around Rs 820 million.
A statement issued here Tuesday said that the PMSA aircraft during patrolling at high seas spotted a suspicious boat which was hiding in a group of fishing boats. Immediately PMSA ship was tasked towards the Contact of Interest.
