An Iranian man held by Somali pirates for more than four years was flown to Ethiopia’s capital Saturday after his captors released him because he needed urgent medical care.

The release of Mohammad Shariff Panahandeh means just three hostages remain in the custody of Somali pirates, according to the Hostage Support Partnership, the charity that negotiated his release.

Accused Somali pirate hauled before judge in Brooklyn, denied bail

An accused pirate who was allegedly part of a Somali crew that kidnapped an American journalist and held him hostage on a hijacked ship while demanding a $20 million bounty was hauled before a federal judge in Brooklyn Wednesday.

Abdi Yusuf Hassan, 51 — who is accused of negotiating the writer’s ransom during his years-long capture — was denied bail while facing six charges, including kidnapping and hostage-taking conspiracy raps, with the judge deeming him too dangerous to be released from the brig.

Rescued Malaysian hostage dies in hospital

THE Malaysian national who was rescued on April 4 by government forces following an encounter with several members of the Abu Sayyaf Group in the hinterlands of Sulu has died.

Armed Forces of the Philippines Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Colonel Gerry Besana said Jari Bin Abdullah passed away on April 9 while being treated at the West Metro Medical Center in Zamboanga City.

Abducted Malaysian fisherman rescued from Abu Sayyaf

Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian fisherman kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf last year was rescued in Sulu on Thursday but is in critical condition after being shot by the group, a Philippine military spokesman told Daily Express.

Jari Abdullah, 34, was abducted along with two Indonesians from their fishing boat in Pegasus Reef waters off Kinabatangan on Dec 6.
